Cutthroat New Zealand no longer sells double edge safety razor blades. We've kept this page up because the questions below still come up, and the answers are still useful whichever brand of blade you end up buying.

If you're a wet shaver, we do still make the things you lather and prep with — shaving soap and pre-shave oil, handmade in New Zealand.

Where Can I Get Razor Blades in NZ?

Long gone are the days when you could pop down to your local corner shop or food store. Traditional safety razor blades in New Zealand are now sold by barber shops, specialist grooming stores and online retailers. Common brands available here include Feather, Wilkinson Sword, MUHLE, BiC and Astra.

Razor Blade FAQs

How long will 25 razor blades last?

On average, one pack of five razor blades will give you about four weeks of clean shaving. Twenty-five blades should therefore last four to five months. The more often you shave, and the coarser your facial hair, the sooner you'll need to replace them.

Are all double edge blades the same?

No. Blade quality varies considerably between brands, and price is usually a fair guide. Most wet shavers try a few brands before settling on one that suits their skin and their razor. A sampler pack is the cheapest way to find out.

Will double edge blades fit my razor?

Double edge safety razor blades are compatible with just about every double edge safety razor made. They can also be snapped in half for use in a shavette.

How often should you change a razor blade?

Change the blade when it starts to tug rather than glide. For most people shaving daily, that's every five to seven shaves. Shaving with a dull blade is the most common cause of irritation and razor burn.

What We Do Still Make

A good blade does half the job. The other half is preparation and lather.

• Pre-shave oil forms a protective layer over the skin before the blade touches it. Try our Sandalwood Pre-Shave Oil or the Unscented Pre-Shave Oil if you'd rather not add a fragrance.
• Shaving soap gives a denser, more cushioning lather than canned cream. Our Sandalwood Shaving Soap and Lavender Shaving Soap are both made in New Zealand and come in recyclable glass jars.
