Black Cedar Beard Balm Made in NZ

Black Cedar Beard Balm is a premium quality balm hand-crafted in small batches in Queenstown, in consultation with a clinically-trained AromaScience Practitioner to ensure the product is safe for cosmetic use.

This is the one scented entirely with essential oils. No fragrance blend, no parfum — cedarwood, black pepper, patchouli and palmarosa, and nothing else.

Four ingredients do the work. Shea butter melts at body temperature and softens the hair. Candelilla wax gives the hold, so you can shape the beard. Jojoba absorbs like your own sebum. Lanolin holds moisture in. None of it clogs pores.

Directions for Use

Scrape a little balm from the pot with a fingernail. Rub it between your palms and fingers until warm and supple. Work it into the skin and the beard, then style as desired and finish with a comb or brush.

Beard Balm FAQs

Is this scented with essential oils?

Yes — entirely. Cedarwood Atlas (Cedrus atlantica), black pepper (Piper nigrum), patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) and palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii). No fragrance blend is used. It is the only balm in our range of which that is true.

What does beard balm do that beard oil doesn't?

Balm contains butters and waxes, so it adds body and lets you shape the beard. Oil absorbs quickly and leaves no hold. Many men use both — oil first, balm over the top.

How much balm should I use?

A fingernail's scrape, warmed between the palms. Too much and the beard looks waxy.

Is beard balm vegan?

No. It contains lanolin, which comes from sheep's wool. The sheep are not harmed — lanolin is a byproduct of shearing — but it isn't vegan.

Does it contain allergens?

It contains shea butter, from a tree nut, though reactions to shea are rare. Lanolin can cause a reaction in people sensitive to it. Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool and Farnesol are naturally occurring components of the essential oils, declared because a small number of people are sensitive to them. Patch test before first use.

Does beard balm help beard growth?

No. It conditions the hair and the skin beneath it. Growth is genetic and hormonal.
